Instant Pot: sauerkraut cabbage rolls

Cabbage rolls is a meal my mom traditionally has prepared over the winter.
Her curiosity and my love for the Instant Pot made us try to cook it in a new way.
You do not have to be a professional chef to make Cabbage rolls, you just need a little time for preparation.
But when you have a perfect helper in the kitchen like me, then it’s easier and more fun.
Although the preparation requires more time, it is worth it. The bigger pot you cook, the better.
You can eat it for 2 days, make pause a day or two, and eat it again.
It can stand in the fridge for up to 8 days, of course, if you have so much You can freeze it as well.
Since the Instant Pot is cooking without any extra attention, it’s worth to take some time for preparations, right?


Instant Pot: sauerkraut cabbage rolls



  • Cabbage rolls
  • • 1 large Cabbage (1.8-2 kg)
  • • 1,2 kg mixture of ground pork and ground beef
  • • 100 grams of bacon
  • • 100 gr parboiled rice
  • • 2 onions
  • • 2 cloves of garlic
  • • 1 egg
  • • 1 tablespoon of sweet red pepper
  • • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • • 1 Bay leaf
  • Sauce
  • • 0,5 dcl of oil
  • • 3 tablespoons of smooth flour
  • • 1 tablespoon of sweet red pepper
  • • 1 liter of water
  • Step 1 • Separate 20 cabbage leafs and thinner the core.
  • Step 2 Cut slightly the rest of the head and rinse half under cold water.
  • Step 3 • Chop garlic and parsley. Finely chop 50 grams of bacon. Saute the chopped onion in Instant Pot.
  • Step 4 • Place meat, rice, 50 grams of chopped bacon, egg, onion, garlic, parsley and spices in a large bowl. Mix all together with your hands.
  • Step 5 • Take the cabbage leaf, add the meat ball, wrap the cabbage around the meat. Press the ends of the cabbage with your finger, so that the meat would not come out when cooking.
  • Step 6 • Put the half of the sliced and washed cabbage on the bottom of the Instant Pot, then place all rolls in circle. Put little cubes of bacon between them. Place the rest of the cut unwashed cabbage on top. Pour water only to cover the sliced cabbage.
  • Step 7 • Close the Instant Pot, set the valve to “sealing” and turn on the “manual” 30 min.
  • Step 8 Let all NPR.
  • Step 9 • Prepare the sauce: Put the oil in pan, add flour and stir well. Cook a few min on low heat. Add the sweet red pepper, stir and add water. Cook for 15 minutes on light heat until it begins to thicken.
  • Step 10 • When you open the Instant Pot, pour the sauce on rolls and wait for the sauce to reach the bottom. Serve with mash potatoes and bread.
